Bu-Bye Drug Store Color

age-beautiful-productIn the last 7 years I have been coloring my hair on a regular basis.  It gives me a richer color than my natural hair and I started getting little gray hairs here and there and I’m not about to let that start showing!

Now that I’ve gotten a little older, I have noticed my hair getting thinner, drier and just unhealthy.  It’s really a number of things.  I’m older and perimenopause has kicked in.  One of the many sucky symptoms of that is thinner hair.  Grrrr.  But my hair has gotten more unhealthy and I know that the coloring and flat ironing do play a part in that.

I decided to go to Sally’s and try the products they have there.  After doing some chatting with one of the women who worked there she steered me in the direction of Age Beautiful by Zotos for hair color.  I used the 3N (darkest brown) cream permanent hair color and used it with Salon Care 20 Volume Crème.  She was very helpful and had a lot of good information.

People say this brand pulls darker but the 3N was spot on to the swatch and the color I wanted.  I usually buy the Revlon Colorsilk in the Brown/Black color.  This was easy to mix and put on my hair.  I also noticed the smell was more mild than the store bought brands.  I left it on for 35 and then shampoo/conditioned my hair.  My hair feels soft, is shiny and the color looks fab.  I’m sold.

I’ve heard time and time again that the store-bought brands are bad for your hair.  When I had younger, healthier hair I didn’t listen because it was cheap and easy.  But I won’t be using those anymore.

Because I’ve Got You, Under My Skin

My skin became extremely itchy on my back, the back of my hands and some on my aveenochest.  This came on very suddenly too.  It felt like needles jabbing my back and my skin felt dry and bumpy.  I’m going through peri-menopause and of course it’s one of the many symptoms.  Itchy skin.  This is caused by skin becoming dry due to less oil production from estrogen levels dropping.  Joy.

Aveeno skin relief 24hr moisturizing lotion provided instant relief.  I put this on every morning after I get out of the shower.  The itch went away day one, skin was more moisturized within a few days and the bumps went away after a week.

Their 24 hour claim is true too.  My skin feels just as hydrated hours and hours later.  So I don’t need to reapply unless it’s on my hands after I wash them.

I have always liked Aveeno products but I have to say this lotion is fantabulous!!  It does everything it claims.  I will be re-purchasing over and over at my local CVS.

New Years Givaway

Frosty the Snow Polish

For years I have been seeing people on youtube and beauty blogs talk about these cute snowman bottles of polish that come out every year for Christmas.  Also they come out for Halloween in jack-o-lattern bottles.  Unfortunately I have never seen them here in Arizona.  We don’t have Rite Aids here.

But then…. just the other day I was in Albertson’s and noticed they had the snowman bottle polish!  Yay!  So I picked up 3 of the colors.  The brand I believe is Blue Cross but they never put color names on the polishes.  I got a red glitter, a light pink glitter and a bright hot pink glitter.  You can see the light pink glitter on my accent finger here.

Brazilian Blowout

I finally broke down and got myself a Brazilian blowout for my hair.  I LOVE it.  It’s straight, soft, shiny and for once doesn’t look damaged.  I was on the fence for a long time since they are pricey but… I’m so glad I got it.  We’ll see how long it lasts and how much easier it is to maintain.  The picture doesn’t do it justice but I couldn’t find my camera.
